Sorting Through Tariff Announcements

Tuesday, April 8th marked the beginning of the "Important Tariff Information" email flood to our inboxes.

The problem? Most of these messages lacked any specific details. Yes, we've all heard about the tariffs, but what we really need is actual data:

  • When suppliers tell us "any parts we manufacture in x country will now be subject to tariffs," we don't know which specific SKUs are affected. We also don't know what percentage tariff you're passing on, or how you're calculating it.
  • When suppliers say "our global supply chain has been impacted," that's not news to anyone. What we need to know is exactly which products are impacted, by how much, and when these changes take effect.
  • When suppliers announce that "prices are subject to change at any moment and current open orders may be affected," that creates impossible planning for everyone.

After receiving numerous vague notices, each with different approaches, we've decided to take a minute to let everything settle just a bit.

Our Commitment to You

As we receive actual concrete data from our vendors, we promise complete transparency about how we're handling these changes.

If we know a tariff and it will apply to your order, we will let you know.

You may see suppliers taking various approaches:

  • Some might apply tariffs as separate line items
  • Others might increase their overall list price
  • Some may adjust unit costs directly, changing what list price actually means
