Safety That Sees More, Leuze LBK 3D Safety Radar System
Posted by Theresa Hoffman on Dec 17th 2025
When it comes to safeguarding hazardous zones in industrial plants — from machining centers and robotic cells to conveyor hand-off points — traditional safety sensors like light curtains or photoelectric devices can struggle. Dust, smoke, oil mist, welding sparks, and other harsh environmental factors often interfere with optical technology.
That's why Leuze introduces its new LBK 3D Safety Radar System. It brings radar-based, three-dimensional detection into safety automation, creating a monitoring solution that performs where optical sensors can fall short.
What Makes It Special
The LBK 3D Radar System provides true 3D detection, allowing it to sense human presence whether a person is moving or standing still. It continues to function even in extremely harsh environments where there is dust, smoke, sawdust, humidity, light interference, or oil mist. The system can even detect presence through some non-metallic obstacles and across different height levels
The LBK system can detect human presence whether someone is moving or standing still, and can monitor different height levels and even see through certain non-metallic materials, giving you more confidence in complex or crowded layouts.
Leuze's radar system is also designed for scalability and flexibility. A single controller can connect with up to six sensors, and multiple controllers can be combined to support up to 24 sensors. This modular structure allows the protected area's shape, size, detection angle, and range to be customized to match the unique machine layouts of your facility requirements.
Designed with flexibility in mind, the system scales easily as your needs grow. Multiple sensors can be connected to cover larger or uniquely shaped areas, and integration is simple thanks to support for common safety communication protocols, including CIP Safety over EtherNet/IP
Where It Shines
The LBK 3D radar system is designed to guard access and presence at material transfer points, particularly where people and robots work in close proximity. It excels at monitoring hidden or hard-to-see machine zones, ensuring that no individual is present before a cycle restarts.
Whether you’re safeguarding robotic cells, material transfer points, AGV routes, or tough environments like welding and metalworking, the LBK 3D Safety Radar System delivers reliable protection — even when conditions aren’t ideal.
What This Means for You
The LBK 3D Radar System provides you with a future-ready safety solution built to withstand demanding environments. Your facility can benefit from more consistent protection, fewer false trips, and reduced downtime thanks to the system's ability to ignore static objects. The scalable design allows you to tailor the coverage area to evolving production needs, while the broad network compatibility makes integration into existing or new systems easy and efficient.
