We’ve recently added a new product category to our website – Safety Disconnect Switches!

For those of you without a full electrical engineering background, you may wonder why this is so exciting for us. For this reason we wanted to give you a quick explanation of what a Safety Disconnect Switch is and why they’re important for your application.

Let’s start with defining what a safety disconnect switch is, also known as a “disconnect switch” or “load break switch.”

Simply put, these switches are added to a production line in order to safely disconnect equipment in an easy manner. While the equipment is functioning, the disconnect switch monitors electrical flow and will disconnect when a fluctuation, disturbance or dangerous electrical peak is detected. The NEC (National Electrical Code) requires safety disconnect switches to be utilized for any residential, commercial, and industrial occupancies in order to be considered “up to code.”

Additionally, these switches also provide an access point to easily manage electrical flow during repairs, maintenance or emergency stops in production.
